Adobe Lightroom 101 Workshop 3/21/15

Lightroom is the essential software tool for any serious photographer. Come and learn the fundamentals of this incredibly powerful tool that many professionals have come to rely on.

Experienced instructor Kathy Tarantola will help guide you through the basics. This workshop will thoroughly cover the Library and Develop modules where you manage, keyword, edit and enhance your images. With hands-on practice, learn how to quickly and easily import, organize, edit, rate, and enhance your images, and how to work through large shoots efficiently with synchronized settings and presets. We will discuss how Photoshop will still fit in your workflow, and learn how to move between Lightroom and Photoshop easily.

We will take several images through the entire Develop workflow, reviewing tools as we go. Topics emphasized will be based on student needs. You will have time to practice with your own images, ask questions, and get feedback on your work.

No prior experience with Lightroom is necessary; however a working knowledge of computers is necessary for you to get the most from this workshop. A laptop computer loaded with the current version of Lightroom 5 is required. You can download a trial version at Adobe.com.

You will gain a fresh outlook on how to manage your workflow and process your digital images faster and with more precise control, as well as learning to quickly increase your creativity and output stunning images.

Herb Greene, Led Zeppelin & The Grateful Dead

In a limited edition portfolio, photographer Herb Greene tells an interesting tale of an afternoon spent photographing Led Zeppelin and The Grateful Dead. Digital Silver Imaging founder, Eric Luden, shows viewers these amazing images, in a video created by BeTerrific.

As Eric states, things between Led Zeppelin and The Grateful Dead did not go as well as photographer Herb Greene would have hoped. The 1969 encounter makes for a legendary rock and roll tale and an exceptional collection of beautiful black & white prints. The images that Digital Silver Imaging created were scanned from Greene’s original black & white film and printed onto DSI Digital Silver Prints®. These images have never been included in a single collection. The limited edition is available for sale through Rock Paper Photo.

Documentary Master Class with Glenn Ruga

Designed for photographers who are working on, or are interested in working on, a body of work culminating in a portfolio or a multimedia presentation. Developing skills of conceptualizing a project, shooting, printing, editing, sequencing, and communicating the concept of a project are the objectives of this Master Class.

Students may present their work during class as prints, projected digital images, or multimedia presentations. While the core of the class is based on still photography, video, sound, or motion may be used as part of the project. Students will be expected to present a final project at the end of the class to the instructor and other classmates in the form of a portfolio of prints, a multimedia presentation, a website, or a book dummy.

The class is designed for photographers who want to engage in a learning environment that will provide consistent valuable feedback and discussion with an instructor and other engaged class members. The class will lean toward subject-based photography but abstract and non-subject based work is also encouraged.

The weekly class will involve analyzing work by accomplished photographers, developing concepts for projects, and regularly reviewing work from class participants.

Requirements: Proficiency in technical aspects of photography including use of digital or film camera, ability to bring in prints or digital slide presentation on a regular basis, and willingness to commit to a project that will be further developed during the course of the class.

Instructor: Glenn Ruga is the Founder and Director of Social Documentary Network and the former Executive Director of the Photographic Resource Center. Ruga has produced three major documentary projects that each traveled to numerous locations across the United States. He served as a curator of the 2012 New York Photo Festival and has been a reviewer at FotoFest, Review Santa Fe, Palm Springs Photo Festival, New England Portfolio Reviews, PDN Portfolio Reviews, and New England ASMP Reviews. Tyson Robichaud: Inkjet vs Silver Gelatin

Tyson Robichaud’s blog reads like a chat with a good friend. He writes on a variety of topics from the theoretical, A photographic study in color, Henri Matisse style, to the practical, Olympus 45mm f/1.8 vs the Contax G Zeiss 45mm f/2. Regardless of the subject, Tyson brings a fresh and personal approach to the photo blogosphere and especially to micro 4/3 and the mirrorless camera genre.

When Tyson proposed a print test comparing our silver gelatin prints to his own and our inkjet prints we thought, “why not!” Tyson was prompted to contact DSI by the team at Macphun software after he reviewed Tonality Pro software. His black & white conversions with Tonality Pro inspired him to take the next logical step, printing. We think the results of his test are worth reading. We’d like to add that we made no proof prints for Tyson in advance. He simply sent in the files and we sent back prints.
