Big Silver Gelatin Prints Kickstarter in the News
Recently posts of Digital SIlver Imaging’s “Big Silver Gelatin Prints” Kickstarter have appeared on a number of blogs and web sites. Among those posts an excellent recap of our project was written by Eileen Fritsch on her blog Great Output. The site is a valuable source of information and news geared toward professional and fine art photographers. The frequent posts are well written and concise. No fluff on this site.
John Neel, author of Rethinking Digital Photography, and frequent contributor to the site Pixiq also posted a story about “Big Silver Gelatin Prints.” In reference to our Kickstarter, Neel wrote:
“This is a great photographic Kickstarter project that will allow giant sized black and white images to be printed from digital files. Who wouldn’t like a giant black and white image that was produced on real gelatin silver paper. IMHO, there is nothing quite like a real B/W silver based photograph. I for one, look forward to the possibility of having a few of my images printed this way.”
Pixiq is a gigantic site with articles on almost everything including, equipment reviews, techniques and commentary. Most of the contributors to Pixiq are published authors and true experts.
Great Output and Pixiq are both sites worthy of a bookmark. As a photographer you can never have enough good information.

Kickstarting Bigger Silver Gelatin Prints
We hear it all the time, “How large can you make a black & white silver gelatin print?” Today the answer is 20” wide; soon we will be able to say “big, really big.” Digital Silver Imaging has contracted the construction of a one-of-a-kind black & white print processor. This monster will allow us to make large silver gelatin prints up to 48” wide on 50” paper.
To make this possible, a larger laser exposure unit, and a darkroom to house the equipment will be needed. A project of this scale requires some investment. We hope to finance this project through a variety of source including Kickstarter. For those that don’t know, Kickstarter is a website where you can fund a project like ours and in return receive “rewards” in the form of products, benefits and thanks. Kickstarter is a great way to help and get some cool stuff at a bargain price.
Our rewards include discounted black & white silver gelatin prints in a variety of sizes up to 48” wide. Other rewards include signed prints by photographers, Herbie Greene, David Beckerman, and Keith Johnson.
Some of the rewards include:
$28 – 8×10 Black & White Silver Gelatin FIber Print ($38 value)
$45 – 11×14 Black & White Silver Gelatin FIber Print ($68 value)
$75 – 16×20 Black & White Silver Gelatin FIber Print ($125 value)
$199 – 30X40 Black & White Silver Gelatin FIber Print ($399 value)

Dwell Magazine Takes Notice of Big Silver Gelatin Prints
Dwell Magazine named Digital Silver Imaging’s campaign, The Big Silver Gelatin Print, their Kickstarter of the week! Thanks to Dwell for noticing our company. Dwell is an excellent magazine with a great site on architecture, design, art and photography.
“A trip to the museum will likely give you a chance to see silver gelatin prints of famous photos, but as digital photography replaces film, more and more darkrooms go dark. But this Belmont, Massachusetts, company ( Digital Silver Imaging) aims to make honest-to-goodness silver gelatin prints out of digital images.” – Aaron Britt Deputy Editor Dwell Magazine
