Grand Teton- Yellowstone Fall Photo Workshop 2020

Date: October 4, 2020

Joe always says that if he was only allowed to pick one place to capture Landscape Photography, it would be Grand Teton – the images above are all from our previous Workshops!

Spectacular scenery, easy touring, expert instruction and a wonderful time for all! We will be arranging for our hotel in downtown Jackson and will have a block of discounted rooms reserved at our headquarters hotel for our group and you may come in early and/or extend your visit here as well. Joe knows all the best locations and viewpoints in and around Grand Teton and he will guide you each day to the best spot based on the weather and lighting conditions but we plan to shoot sunrise each day in this amazing region.

In addition to all of the great vistas within Grand Teton National Park, we will also spend a day in Yellowstone and visit the beautiful and majestic Lower Yellowstone Falls. Registration is limited to 8 photographers, so individual attention is ensured and we will have two classroom sessions at our Headquarters hotel –  to teach image enhancements and editing of some images we capture during the week. Sign up soon, because this Workshop sells out every year!

Tuition is just $1895! reserve your spot with just a $495 deposit

Includes five days of touring, instruction and classroom image editing sessions.

Durango Photo Train & Telluride Fall Colors 2020

Date: September 27, 2020

Fall in southwestern Colorado is a place of rare beauty as the aspens turn from green to shimmering gold and Telluride is the best place we’ve even seen for these beautiful colors. But before we head over to Telluride, we’ll start our week off with the incredible Durango & Silverton Photo Train. This special train only runs two weekends each year and is designed specifically for photographers.

Throughout the days trip up into the San Juan mountains, the trains lets us off in beautiful scenery and then backs up around a turn. With a sound of the whistle, the train comes steaming back as we get shots that are truly unique in spectacular settings!

After spending Saturday and Sunday night in Durango, we’ll head over to Telluride. Imagine a beautiful western town in a box canyon surrounded on three sides by towering mountains. There are three “fourteeners” (14,000+ ft. mountains) including Mt. Wilson, wilson Peak and Mount Sneffles along with a grouping equally majestic peaks featuring the beautiful Ajax Peak right at the end of Telluride’s main street.

We’ll photograph around the many beautiful viewpoints around Telluride as we spend two nights here. On Wednesday we’ll head northeast around the mountains past the Dallas Divide and Ralph Lauren ranch on the way to Ouray, CO – named the “Switzerland of the America”. We’ll photograph the scenery and perhaps take in the waterfall hidden in a canyon. An the way south back to Durango, we’ll stop along the way as we cross the Molas Pass at 11,000 feet and bask in the beauty of this scenic countryside. We’ll spend the night in Durango Wednesday night.

On Thursday we’ll have a breakfast wrap-up meeting and check out as we head out having enjoyed a spectacular week of scenery and photography. Transportation, Food and Lodging are not include. This trip does include two classroom sessions for image editing and enhancements.   The photo train is optional at an additional $229 per person.

The trip is limited to eight participants – send us any questions you might have!

Cape Cod Lighthouse & Beach Photo Tour

Date: May 14, 2020

Spring on the Cape!

Join us for a fun-filled long weekend photographing Lighthouses and the Seashore in and around Cape Cod, MA. We’ll visit some truly beautiful spots including taking the ferry to Nantucket to visit both Sankaty Head and Brant Point Lighhouses. Out focus will be on composition that creates a sense of the environment and place each structure lives in. We start at Scituate Light on Thursday morning and then head onto the Cape. Tuition includes all touring and field instruction. We’ll plan on having a classroom session as well where we will explore some editing and enhancing techniques with both Lightroom and Photoshop. Transportation, lodging and food are not included, but we will see about getting a group rate at our hotel. We’ll also be doing some carpooling to minimize the number of vehicles.

If you are going to join us, why not stay Saturday night and join Joe for a morning shoot at Nobska Light near Woods Hole on the Cape. No extra charge for another morning of shooting and guidance!

Travel to the Tobacco Harvest of Cuba

Date: February 1, 2020

When we visit some of our favorite remote places, like Cuba, we’ll be sure to give you a trip with a twist that no ordinary group would offer. For instance in Cuba, we’re not just going to visit magnificent urban and rural areas, we’ll be following the tobacco harvest with some of the most famous growers and cigar makers in the world, across the country, a trip equivalent to being on the ground for the great wine harvests of Bordeaux and Burgundy.

The trip will start in Havana where we will explore the city and it’s people.  We will have Carlos Rene Aguilera Tamayo as our guide to take us into the culture and the world of Cuban art.

We will drive to Vinales on the western end of the island.  The valleys of Vinales hold the greatest tobacco fields in the world, which will be in full bloom.  The farmers have opened their farms to us to photograph and learn about the famous Cuban cigar. The sunrises and sunsets will be taken while looking over the farmland.  The artists of the area have invited us into their homes to listen to great music and talk art.

We will also travel to Trinidad to the south. Stopping along the way for a portrait workshop with local farmers.

Book Making Workshop – Ralph Gibson

Date: January 24, 2020

The photography book remains the foremost delivery system of a photographer’s vision.

In the book the sum equals more than the parts. In the world of photography all the leading practitioners have made their work and their names known by way of a major publication. For many serious photographers, however, the book is a goal difficult to realize. Often the technical steps in making a book remain a mystery.

This 3-day workshop and will deal with all aspects of the book making process. We will focus on the book “dummy” as an object in and of itself. An object developed to the level of presentation for final publication. Aspects of layout, design, double-page spreads, book cover impact and editorial thrust as well as binding, typography, separation for plate-making, distribution formulas and more will be addressed.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to view books by Ralph Gibson and their hand-made dummies, created via this same process. Ralph’s position has always been that an accurate facsimile of the book intended for publication is the optimum approach.

Ralph strongly believes that these are the golden years of the photography book. This workshop is designed to help you explore the process with guidance from a true master of the craft.
